Course Description:
An advanced banding class will be held at the Tennessee River Gorge Trust Bird Observatory just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee, along the Tennessee River Gorge. The course is scheduled for September 27-30, 2018. The course is designed to advance the participants' banding skills they already possess by focusing on molt strategies and plumages on birds in hand, and advance skills in aging birds. Participants will arrive at the TRGT's remote Bird Observatory the night of September 26th, then the course will begin with bird banding at sunrise (6:30 AM EST) on September 27th. Participants can stay in our open-roomed bunk cabins or camping platforms for tents. Meals will be included from breakfast the 27th to lunch the 30th. The course will end at 3:00 PM EST on September 30th Sunday. The days will begin with banding, then a lunch break, followed by lectures and additional lessons, then a group dinner.
Amenities:
Sleeping Amenities: There are two open-room cabins with bunks and camping platforms for tent camping.
Food: Meals will be included from breakfast on September 27th through lunch September 30th. Please email eliotb@trgt.org with any dietary restrictions.
All site amenities: There is a well-maintained composting privy, shower platform with heated shower, two generator hook ups for lighting and charging devices, potable water stations, outdoor tables, open-walled canopy tent, designated cooking area, group dining table, 2+ miles of trail, water access to the Tennessee River, fire pit and hang out area, and a screened-in bird banding lab.
