Williams Island Blueway Camping


 
 

Campsite Info

This campground offers 8 free campsites. The island is accessible by boat only. The public access dock can be found directly across from Baylor School on the west side of the island marked by a blueway campsite sign. Campsites 1-3 have an elevated platforms, picnic tables, and fire rings. Campsites range from 100 yards to a half mile from the trailhead. The group campsites have only camping platforms. Although a reservation ensures you will have a campsite, selecting your specific campsite is on a first come first serve basis. Reservations can be made below. Directions

 

Williams Island is only accessible by water. The coordinates for the dock and trailhead are 35.085099, -85.340764. The nearest public boat ramp is the Suck Creek boat ramp which is located roughly 2 miles downstream of the Williams Island Blueway Campsite dock and trailhead. The Coolidge Park boat launch is roughly 8 miles upstream of the Williams Island Trailhead. The campsite dock and trailhead are located on the right side of the island with a downstream orientation and is roughly halfway down the island. Williams Island is part of the Tennessee River Blueway, a river trail formed by TVA in the 1930s that runs for 45 miles from Chickamauga Dam to Nickajack Dam. The best information for traveling on the Tennessee Blueway is located at Canoe Tennessee's website. 


General Camping Information

  • There is a 5-day maximum stay at our campsites. Consecutive reservations of 5 days must have a 7-day buffer period between reservations

  • 8 camper maximum per site

  • Campers must check out by 11:00 AM ET and campers may check in as early as 12:00 PM ET

  • Camping at our campsites requires a permit (see below)

  • Williams Island has 8 distinct campsites

  • Access to the campsites requires a short hike, ranging from 100 yards to a half mile

  • The coordinates for the dock and trailhead are 35.085099, -85.340764

  • Please be respectful of the organic farm and cattle on Williams Island

  • Campsites are free so everyone can get out and enjoy the Gorge! We welcome donations to TRGT so we can continue to manage these campsites for the community at www.trgt.org/donate
