The Tennessee River Gorge Trust seeks and accepts lands, and conservation easements on lands that are located in the view shed of the Tennessee River Gorge. The Gorge begins approximately 5 miles downstream from downtown Chattanooga, at Williams Island, and runs 27 river miles to Hales Bar Dam Marina near Nickajack Lake. The primary project area of the Trust lies on either side of the river up to an elevation of 1,700 feet.
Through the cooperation of landowners and the generosity of the local community, we have protected 17,004.81 acres of pristine wilderness within the 27,000 acre Gorge. This land has been protected by means of direct purchases, Memorandum of Understandings (MOU), donations and conservation easements.
Undisturbed natural lands enrich the experience of everyday human lives in a community and guarantees open green space for future generations to enjoy.
